Eli is a year and a half old!! Wow! That sounds crazy. I can’t believe my little tiny baby is 18 months old. He’s not so tiny anymore either. We had his 18 month well baby checkup today and he weighs 23 lbs 5oz and is 31.5 inches tall. He’s finally broken out of that 15% range and is 30% for height and 20% for weight 🙂 I thought he had been eating like a horse lately. 😉
He has been having a lot of ear infections but is thankfully ear ache free at the moment.
My big year and a half old boy is doing a lot of cool new things lately. He has gotten very good at climbing and now climbs all over, including some places his momma would rather he didn’t… Like on top of the dining room table…
We took our first trip to the magic house with friends and Eli had a blast. There were stairs all over there and he was a pro. We have decided to purchase a magic house membership so we can go as often as we want. It will be a wonderful getaway when Eli is needing to get out some of his boundless energy especially when it’s too cold, hot, or rainy to go outside to a park.
Another of Eli’s favorite things is cleaning. He loves to drive the little dirt devil hand vacuum around. He brings it to me to use after each time he eats. There are always Cheerios to vacuum up 😉
Eli is also very good at finding things. I can ask him where something, say a specific toy, is and he can almost always find it and get it. He even remembers where he has hidden something. I asked him where his yellow car was and he went over to his alligator riding toy, opened the seat, pulled out the yellow car, and brought it to me 🙂 he’s such a genius!
Eli is also a caring sensitive guy. He can tell when I’m sad or hurt and will hug me to make me feel better. Sometimes it’s hard being so sensitive. In the nursery at church he will sometimes cry when one of his friends is crying. It’s as if he feels the pain of the crier. Poor little guy. We had to distract him to keep him from crying every time anyone else did :).
Eli loves to read and will often read several books on his own. He reads the same book over and over again too. Sometimes he brings books to me to read and will even sit on my lap for a few pages 🙂
The word Eli seems to say most now-a-days is “D-yeah”. He says it like he’s saying duh and then yeah. It’s so funny when he says it and t seems as if he’s saying “guys come on… It’s obvious!!”
Well, I’d better stop writing for now. Eli is about to fall off the couch onto his head. :/
Hello again
I know this is my first blog in a loooooong long time. I won’t try to catch up as that would take an even longer time.
Since the last time I wrote, things have changed a lot around here. Eli was diagnosed as allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, and borderline on wheat. So, we have totally changed the way we cook and eat. It has been a struggle planning and cooking Eli friendly. I miss cooking with butter and cheese. I hope to post some of my cooking adventures on here in the future.
Eli has grown up so much in the past few months. He’s walking, well running, all over the place now. He started walking just after his 13 month birthday whike we were at a church family meeting. It was awesome and I had to restrain myself to keep from screaming in the middle of the meeting. 🙂
He is also into climbing… This one momma could do without. One time I was doing dishes and it was too quiet in the family room where he was. You know the kind of quiet I’m referring to… The “he must be doing something super crazy or super messy to be that quiet” kind of quiet. Sure enough, I check on him and he is standing on top of the coffee table just dancing and having a merry old time. I’m not sure where he learned the table dancing thing but this could be an issue. 😉
Eli has also started to really enjoy his books. He sits in his adorable adirondack chair his “grandpa” Wayne made him and reads. He also takes one of his play cups with a spoon (or fork) in it to stir, and sits it on the arm of the chair so he can have it whike he’a sitting. Sometimes he asks me to read to him and will usually sit still on my lap for… Oh, about the first page or two. He also likes to rip the flaps off those lovely lift-a-flap books. So now most of those are no-flap books 🙁 we are working on this.
Eli has had a love hate relationship with the Christmas tree. When David and I first put it up, Eli thought it was pretty exciting. Then I thought it might be cool if he, Eli, put the first ornament on. Well… This did not to so well. Daddy held him while I got ready to capture a priceless sweet new Christmas tradition in the making. But, when David held Eli up to the tree with his soft stuffed ornament, Eli completely lost it. He screamed, writhed, and clung to his daddy with all his might. Then he tried to jump to me becsuse I was further from the tree. We tried to show him how neat t is to lay under the tree and look up at all the lights. He didn’t think it was so cool. He yelled and cried and couldn’t decide if it would be better to scramble out at top speed or remain completely still and hope the tree didn’t see him. After we pulled him out he whimpered and held me tightly for about 10 minutes. We decided not to force the issue anymore after that.
He has now accepted the tree. He doesn’t mind it as long as its safely behind the gate. We had it open for a while and he left it alone because he was horrified. But then he got brave and would play with the ornaments. Now, he has to have the lights turned on every morning when he comes in for breakfast and let’s us know if we forget. He also looks at the tree and says “ights” which of course means lights 🙂 Right now his favorite thing to do with the tree is to throw everything
in the room at it over the gate. I have my nativity scene shielded with presents so a well aimed book or paci missile won’t cause an early departure for a wiseman.
Just today, I noticed that Eli can now shake his head in response to certain questions. I asked him if he wanted his paci and he shook his head yes. I asked him if he would snuggle with me and he shook his head no. Little stinker. 😉
Eli loves to dance. Sometimes we have dance parties to to Toby Mac songs on daddy’s phone. The whole family dances like crazy people and laugh a lot. It’s a good workout. 😉 Lately though, We have been dancing to christmas music that we play on the tv through pandora. When Eli is having a very rough moment or anytime because I just love Christmas music, I turn it on. Eli spins around and steps back and forth. He looks to me sometimes asking me to dance. He is quite the partner. We dance, him in my arms, and spin around, dip, and glide across the room. He loves it and laughs like crazy. My sweet boy loves music and dancing. He is a boy after his momma’s heart. 🙂
Eli has between 12 and 14 teeth already. It’s hard to know for sure because he does not like me looking in his mouth.
I apologize for the choppiness of this post. I just knew if I didn’t get back into it, it’d probably never happen. I wrote this back at the beginning of January and hadn’t posted it yet…
So, I will try to keep up a bit better now… Shoot for every few days so its easier to keep up.
These pictures of Eli will be just some cute ones from various times since I’m soooo behind.
A day at the park
On Saturday, we went to creve coeur park forthe birthday party of one of davids coworker’s daughters. It was a really cute party. The most awesome thing, however, was that we discovered the really cool playground! Eli played on the preschool playground (with daddy’s help of course) for a long time. He experienced his first time on the slide and his first time in a swing. To say he loved it is putting it mildly. There is also a best splash pad that will be a lot of fun when he’s a little older. This time daddy ran through it with him. Overall, it was a great day and Eli had so much fun!
Eli is 1!!!
Eli is 1!! His birthday was last Saturday the 11th. We had a great big party with lots of family and friends. Eli really enjoyed seeing everyone. I don’t think he really knew what was going on but he loved it anyway.
Eli enjoyed his cake but didn’t know what to do with it. He got some in his mouth and thought it was pretty tasty. Then, he broke out in crazy hives and had to have an emergency oatmeal bath to soothe them away. He recovered quickly and was able to enjoy the rest of his party 🙂
Thank you so much to everyone who was able to come and those who were there in spirit. Eli also says thanks for all the awesome presents. I think we nearly doubled his library of board books :).
It’s official! Eli is now a hands and knees crawler
It’s official now. Eli is a crawl on his hands and knees kind of guy! He’s been crawling like an inchworm for a while now but he started “normal” crawling a few days ago and now seems to crawl that way all the time 🙂 he looks so cute and it getting so big! I cannot believe that he will be a whole year old on Saturday!! Wow! Time really does fly when you’re having fun. 🙂
Sorry for the lapse
Eli is growing and becoming a great big boy really quickly. I cannot believe he will be a year old a week from tomorrow! Wow! I have been heavy into party planning mode and dealing with roofing stuff so I haven’t gotten around to updating the blog. This will be quick and have some sweet Eli pics 🙂
Pull up! And not the diaper kind ;)
Eli is growing and learning so much every day. I cannot believe he is going to be a whole year old in less than a month… Wow! I remember the moment I found out I was pregnant. I was so excited I could hardly stand it. I remember bring pregnant and feeling him move inside me. I remember not being able to wait for his arrival and thinking time had to be moving more slowly than normal. I remember when we went to the hospital and when I saw him for the first time. He was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. He still is 🙂 When we got to take him home for the first time, it was as if our life had begun anew. His sweet smiles and cuddling have made my days and my heart full.
Now, he is a big boy who sits up, crawls at lightening speeds, talks some, and loves to read and play. It’s hard to believe that he was once the little flutter I felt inside me 🙂
Eli’s newest trick is pulling up. He started from sitting in the laundry basket. He could also pull up from sitting on something, something like my leg. Now, he’s a pro. He has been pulling up on the coffee table, couch, laundry basket, and me.
Eli has also developing a strong interest in reading. He loves to read his books and tries to get mommy’s too. He is working on turning pages and on holding the books while mommy reads. He looks at books when he’s playing on the floor and when he’s standing at the coffee table. He’s a big reader 🙂
Saturday
Saturday… Today didn’t seem much like a Saturday to me. Eli got up around 8 which sounds amazing until you hear that was after getting up and midnight and 4 to eat. He has been doing the up at night thing for a few weeks and it’s been worse lately. Maybe it was his cold or whatever he has coming on. I don’t know but I’m hopeful he will eventually get back to sleeping through the night because this momma was spoiled with getting a semi decent night of sleep 🙂
Unfortunately, Eli wasn’t really feeling better today. He sneezed a lot less and his nose seemed to be a bit less stuffy so he coukd nurse more easily. But, he coughed all day. Poor baby. Sadly, his daddy also felt sick this morning and had to sleep late to feel better.
While daddy was sleeping, Eli and I read books and he showed me a new skill. He has began to grasp the concept of object permanence. This is just a fancy education word for knowing that something is still there even if you can’t see it. This is why babies are so fascinated by peek a boo games Learning that things don’t vanish is an important developmental skill and I was excited to see Eli understanding it.
Eli is, for some reason, absolutely enthralled with my shoes. I always have to take them off and “hide” them so he doesn’t try to play with and chew on them. I always hid them by putting a couch pillow over them. Before today, Eli would just give up when he couldn’t see them anymore. But today he just lifted up the pillow and grabbed my shoe. He’s so smart! It is so amazing to be able to see his growth and development.
In the middle of the day, I braved the microwave oven that is outside and went to walgreens to get some stuff for David. It sure was hot out there! Phew!! That’ll sure make you appreciate the air conditioning in your house and car 🙂
We had some yummy homemade parmesan gnocchi with spinach Alfredo sauce for dinner. Afterwards, we made a fort and played for a while. Eli wasn’t sure what to think but he liked it 🙂
Eli tried out another new trick tonight after he went to bed. We went to check on him as he was crying. When David went in. He found Eli sitting up in the corner of his crib. Eli must have perfected the whole sitting from laying thing since first did it yesterday. New project for tomorrow: lowering Eli’s crib mattress 🙂
When daddy got him back to sleep he laid down with his tiny hiney in the air. It might just be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen… 🙂
Overall, it was an eventful Saturday 🙂
Poor sicky Eli :(
Poor baby Eli is sick. It could maybe be allergies but I don’t know. He has been sneezing up a storm, drooling like a puppy, and has had a majorly runny nose. He can’t breath through his nose very well now. It sounds kind of like he’s snoring when he tries.
Poor buddy had trouble nursing too. He wanted to eat, which is good since he didn’t earlier. But, his nose isaa so stopped up that he had to suck, pull off to breath, then get more milk. He had to do this every few seconds. This made for some taxing eating 🙁 poor baby
I hope and pray he feels better soon. I always feel so powerless when he’s sick. I can’t make him feel better and that makes me sad 🙁
Please pray that he gets better soon and doesn’t feel too bad while he’s sick.
Milestones
I keep trying to make up for posts I missed which means I keep missing current stuff in turn. So, I’m just going to start posting current again.
Eli has been having a lot of firsts lately. Yesterday, he was playing in a laundry basket as I was folding laundry and he pulled up for the first time. He used the side of he basket and the edge of the coffee table he was close to to stand up. He did it a few times, all on his quest for York peppermint parties 🙂
Today Eli moved from a crawling position into sitting up for the first time. He scootched his little hiney back on his knees and sat up. He is getting so big so quick!
He has also been standing by himself a bit. He has been standing with assistance for a long time but now, when I let go, he can sometimes stand by hinself for a bit. I think his record is like 7 seconds so he’s getting there.
Eli has also been learning how to drum and how to sing. He’s going to be our little musician 🙂
I am so thankful to god for allowing me to be able to stay home with Eli to experience these “firsts” first hand. I would be so sad to have to miss them.
